Manchester City leaders appear to have targeted a long-term replacement for goalkeeper Ederson. The Brazilian has an active contract with the club until 2026. However, he has long been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, and could leave in the upcoming summer transfer window. This is the reason why City managers are exploring other options in terms of goal, and one of the main options being mentioned recently is Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa.
Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson has commented on City's interest in Diogo Costa, and gave his opinion on the player:
"I have seen him play several times. He has good technical skills, and reads situations quite well. However, the two goals he conceded against Manchester United were exact copies, and he should have stopped both shots. There are some issues with his technical skills when it comes to stopping shots."
Robinson added:
"He's still only 25 years old, he's played over 100 league games with Porto...He's an expert at saving penalties. Costa is the type of goalkeeper that when you look at the stats, data and numbers on paper, you have to pay attention. But there are some technical issues that I would take into account, looking at all the goalkeepers that City will be monitoring in case Ederson decides to leave."
Meanwhile, another big problem for Manchester City could be the departure of coach Pep Guardiola. Following the news of sporting director Txiki Begiristain leaving at the end of the season, English media have reported that Guardiola is also closer to leaving the Etihad.
