Liverpool are monitoring an excellent opportunity to sign Federico Chiesa, following news that Juventus boss Thiago Motta sees the Italian as too much for the squad. Chiesa shone for Juventus last season, scoring 10 goals in all competitions as he helped his side win the Coppa Italia. However, coach Max Allegri was fired shortly before the end of the season, and Motta was placed in charge of the club.
The former PSG defender, now a coach, is making a series of changes at Juventus and has decided to exclude Chiesa from the team. The striker was not included in the team that faced Brest in the friendly match. Motta revealed after the match that Chiesa is now free to leave Turin. Instead of the Italian, the coach is focusing on giving opportunities to other players. Motta said:
"Chiesa is out for transfer market reasons, like him and the others who stayed at home, except for Miretti who is injured. We were clear with them. They are good players, but they have to look for solutions where they can play more,"
Motta's clarification on Chiesa's situation could give Liverpool the chance to revive a previously failed bid. In 2021, after his excellent role in Italy's victory at Euro 2024, "The Reds" made a move for the Juventus star.
Anfield leaders made an offer worth around £85m for the striker. But the offer was immediately rejected by the Italian giants, who branded Chiesa unsellable as they aimed to build the team around him. However, Allegri's departure appears to have marked the end of Chiesa's time at the Serie A giants. New Liverpool boss Arne Slott is yet to make any signings this summer, although he does not appear to see the attacking area as a weakness special. It remains to be seen whether Chiesa will be part of the English side this season.
