The English media have announced that Liverpool is in constant contact for the possible transfer of Bayer Leverkusen's right back, Jeremie Frimpong. The Dutch international shone last season in the Bundesliga, reaching double figures in goals and assists to help his side to the title without losing a game.
Sources close to the player have revealed that Liverpool have made him their top target to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold if he decides to leave next summer. Liverpool want to push to the end to push Trent to renew, but contact with Jeremie is ongoing. It is not ruled out that Liverpool will soon increase the pressure if Alexander-Arnold does not show flexibility over the terms of his new contract renewal.
Alexander-Arnold is in the last year of his contract with Liverpool and "The Reds" have yet to reach an agreement to keep the Englishman at Anfield, which remains their priority. This could theoretically allow other interested clubs to move ahead of Liverpool in the race for Frimpong, who has also attracted the attention of Manchester City and Real Madrid.
Frimpong could be an ideal long-term replacement for Kyle Walker at Man City. At the same time, if Real Madrid end up prioritizing Frimpong in the market, then it could end up being positive for Liverpool, helping them to keep Alexander-Arnold in the team.
So far, the Englishman has had concrete links with Real Madrid but not with another club, which perhaps suggests that Alexander-Arnold only has one destination in mind if he is to leave Anfield. If Real decide they would prefer Frimpong, then Trent would be happy to reject any other interest and commit to staying at Liverpool.
