Everton are preparing for a crucial summer transfer window as they consider a potential replacement for Jarrad Branthwaite amid widespread speculation over his departure. Reliable sources have revealed that the Toffees have identified Belgian defender Koni De Winter as a top target and that Genoa have set a minimum price tag of €25m (£21m) for him.
With Dan Friedkin and The Friedkin Group ready to invest heavily to restore Everton to the top flight of the Premier League, it is expected that the club will target some quality reinforcements. However, much will depend on retaining key players, with Branthwaite already the focus of Manchester United's attention.
Reports suggest the 22-year-old is ready to accept a move to Old Trafford, provided United secure a Champions League place. In that context, Everton are preparing to secure a worthy replacement and De Winter has caught their eye. The 21-year-old defender, who has been capped twice by the Belgian national team, is also being tracked by Inter Milan, Wolves and several Bundesliga clubs. With Genoa having set a reasonable price for him, competition for his signature is likely to be fierce in the summer.
Seen as a potential replacement for Branthwaite if he leaves – although it is understood Everton could make a move for the 22-year-old regardless – we are told scouts are keeping a close eye on him and he is considered a ‘strong candidate’ to strengthen their defence. A player with a high level of flexibility and defensive intelligence, De Winter is already seen as an attractive option for clubs looking to improve their backline. As previously reported, and despite his contract with Genoa running until 2028, the Serie A club will not stand in the player’s way if a substantial offer arrives on their table this summer.
