Chelsea are reportedly keen to bring Marc Guehi to Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window. The England defender is currently playing for Crystal Palace, but was originally part of the Chelsea academy until 2021. The Blues are now keen to bring their star back home, but it won't be easy. Crystal Palace made it clear during the winter transfer window that they had no intention of letting Guehi go in the middle of the season, despite numerous offers.
Tottenham and Newcastle made several offers for the Englishman, but all of them were rejected by Palace, who are demanding at least £70m for the defender. However, Chelsea will have an open window to sign Guehi at the end of the season. The London Blues will be in a more advantageous position, as the player will only have 12 months left on his current contract with Palace. This will push the club's directors to profit from his sale as soon as possible, in case Guehi decides not to renew.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is an admirer of the defender and sees him as a figure with the potential to become a leader in the Blues' backline. Guehi has attracted attention with his performances for Palace, but also with his impressive performances for England during the recent European Championship.
Guehi has made 141 appearances for Palace since joining from Chelsea four years ago for £4m. The defender is one of the club's most important players, but the Englishman's ambitions of playing in the Champions League are not being realised at a team like Palace. This is another reason that could push the player towards a new adventure, and potentially, a return to Stamford Bridge.
