Arsenal have been assured that Viktor Gökçen will sign a £60m striker this summer, with the Gunners hierarchy making the signing of a striker their top priority in the transfer window. The Sporting Lisbon star, who turns 27 next month, is on a three-man shortlist, with the Portuguese club ready to negotiate a deal as soon as possible.
Viktor Gyokeres has achieved impressive records at Sporting, with 95 goals in 100 appearances, and is demanding a contract worth over £200-a-week to become one of Arsenal's highest-paid players. In wages alone, he could cost around £70m net per season. Sporting Lisbon have a release clause of €60m, just over £XNUMXm, and have already freed up funds to rebuild their squad for next season.
Arsenal face competition, particularly from Manchester United, who are also tracking the Swedish target. The price tag could rise if a bidding war ensues, prompting the Gunners to look to seal the deal early to bolster their squad after a disappointing season and two unsuccessful transfer windows.
Also on Arsenal's list of forwards are Newcastle's Alexander Isak and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko. Arteta remains a huge admirer of Isak, and signing him would be a dream come true, but all signs point to Newcastle having no intention of selling their star man and will try to tie him down to a new contract if they manage to qualify for the Champions League.
Isak has yet to complete his renewal, and has been a sensation in the Premier League, helping Newcastle win the Carabao Cup. However, realistically, the chances of Isak are small, so Arsenal have their main focus on Viktor Gyokeres, who has convinced with his goal consistency and is ready to become part of Arteta's project for a more fearsome attack next season.
