Arsenal are weighing up a bid for Raheem Sterling on the final day of the summer transfer window. Sterling, who is part of Chelsea, has had a communication with the new coach of the blues, Enzo Maresca. The latter has informed the attacker that he will no longer have spaces in the first team, and the Englishman is keen to leave Stamford Bridge.
Mikel Arteta is looking for an explosive player in attack, who will offer the "gunners" more options in the offensive department. Arsenal's primary target was Nico Williams. However, the latter will stay at Athletic Bilbao this year as well, while in the long term, the Spaniard wants to play at Barcelona. This has left Arsenal with few options on the table and Sterling is one of them.
Coach Arteta wants to better balance the attacking wings, as at the moment, almost all the weight of creating dangerous chances from the wings rests on Bukayo Saka. Arteta wants to somehow remove the weight from the Englishman's arms, taking into account the busy schedule of matches in the Premier League and Europe.
The main problem in reaching a deal between Chelsea and Arsenal for Sterling is the player's wages. At the moment, the Englishman benefits from about 325 thousand pounds per week at Stamford Bridge, a rather high figure. Arsenal, on the other hand, cannot break their wage structure, and this means that Sterling is expected to be offered around £150 a week.
Arsenal are also monitoring Kingsley Coman, in case the Sterling deal doesn't go through. Bayern Munich's Frenchman could leave on the final day of the transfer window as Bayern look to improve their financial situation.
