The board of directors of Manchester United has compiled a "short-list", with 4 main candidates for the post of coach of the "Red Devils". Interim coach Ralf Rangnick will leave at the end of the season and the club will have to speed up, in case it seeks to bring to the top of the Old Trafford bench, a worthy name.
Mauricio Pochettino, Erik Ten The Hague, Julen Lopetegui and Luis Enrique are the options being discussed by the English club executives. The name of the German Chelsea coach, Thomas Tuchel, has recently been mentioned in the media, but sources from United have denied these claims.
Pochettino and Ten Hag are said to be currently leading the race for the Red Devils bench, while many board members have serious doubts about the game philosophy of Lopetegui and Enrique. Some voices within United claim that the latter's game models would not fit well with a club like Manchester.
Support is higher for Pochettino, given his experience in the Premier League. During the time that the Argentine led Tottenham, he managed to fight quite well against teams like Liverpool and Manchester City, recording impressive performances. Recall that at Tottenham his resources were quite limited compared to opponents, a problem that Pochettino will not have at United, if he joins the club.
The Dutchman Ten Hag is also an alternative that is very much liked by the club. But for the Ajax coach there are still many questions about his adaptation to a completely new structure like that of United. The pressure to achieve results and win trophies is much greater in England.
Club executives have hinted that the next coach of the team will surely be one of the 4 names mentioned, only if a sudden change occurs and another world-class coach is available.
