Marcus Rashford has not given up hope of his dream move to Spain, despite Barcelona sporting director Deco saying this week that the club were not "desperate" to sign him.
Rashford joined Aston Villa on transfer deadline day from Manchester United on loan, looking for regular minutes after manager Ruben Amorim left him out of the squad following a clash between them. The 27-year-old had been expected to leave his boyhood club after being left out of the squad for the Manchester derby in December. In his first interview with the club, Rashford spoke of his excitement at returning to the pitch.
However, he made it clear that he did not see his long-term future in the Midlands. This is despite Aston Villa having a £40m purchase option at the end of the loan.
Rashford said:
"Obviously, I'll be here for a short period, but I want to make the most of this stay. And the only way to do that is by using my skills and qualities to help the team."
Yesterday, against Ipswich, Rashford hit a free kick against the crossbar, which was then converted by Ollie Watkins to secure a 1-1 draw. His brothers, who also act as his agents, held talks with several European clubs, including Barcelona.
But the Catalans did not push for a deal, leading to Rashford joining Aston Villa for the remainder of the season.
Deco said:
"It's true that there were talks about Rashford - but we weren't really looking for a player."
It remains to be seen whether Rashford will be able to fulfill his desire to move to Spain to Barcelona, or will he be forced to return to Old Trafford at the end of the season.
