Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Conor Gallagher, following the endorsement of Ruben Amorim. The 25-year-old joined Atletico Madrid from Chelsea in the summer of 2024, but his future is uncertain ahead of the January transfer window. Manchester United had the chance to sign Gallagher on deadline day last time out but failed to reach an agreement. Amorim's side could have agreed a loan deal for the midfielder, but decided to bring in Senne Lammens.
Sources say Manchester United are eyeing Conor Gallagher as a potential replacement for Kobbie Mainoo in midfield. Mainoo has had a limited role this season and is down the pecking order under Amorim. United chiefs believe Gallagher is a better fit for the Portuguese manager's system.
Despite now being considered a reserve, United are expected to block Mainoo's exit in January, just as they did during the summer window when they refused to let him leave on loan. In addition to Manchester United, Tottenham have also been linked with Conor Gallagher ahead of the January transfer window, with Crystal Palace showing interest in him, given he had a loan spell there in the 2021-22 season.
Amorim's side will face competition from other Premier League clubs to secure the England international's services. United may also find it difficult to convince Gallagher to leave Atletico Madrid, as he still has a significant role under Diego Simeone.
