Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag looks set to face a battle to retain the manager's title at Old Trafford. After the 3-0 defeat at home to Tottenham, rumors of the Dutchman's departure have become louder, and it seems that the United board is considering other alternatives for the position of coach at the "Red Devils". One of them is the coach of Inter Milan, Simone Inzaghi.
The Italian took charge of Milan in 2021, and since that moment he has managed to win 5 trophies with the black and white, including the Serie A last season. Inter also came very close to winning the Champions League, before the team were beaten by Manchester City in the 2023 final.
Meanwhile, Manchester United face Porto in the Europa League, before a tough trip to Aston Villa in the Premier League. Coach Ten Hag must get the best out of his team in these 2 games, as Sir Jim Ratcliffe is expected to decide on the Dutchman's future during the international break. We remind you that the "Red Devils" are in 12th place in the Premier League, only 4 points away from the relegation zone.
However, taking down Ten Hag will not be easy. The manager agreed to renew his contract this summer, and Jim Ratcliffe will consult with other board members before making a final decision. Besides Inzaghi, another alternative is Gareth Southgate. The former coach of the English national team has many admirers in the management structure of the club, as well as having a close relationship with the sporting director, Dan Ashworth. It remains to be seen if Ten Hag will continue to lead the bench at Old Trafford, or if a new chapter will start for Manchester United.
