Manchester United chiefs have held one-on-one talks with Liam Delap and are close to agreeing a deal for Matheus Cunha. Delap, 22, has been given permission by Ipswich Town to travel to Manchester to see for himself what a move to Old Trafford would be like. Newcastle face competition from other clubs, including Chelsea, and Delap is expected to hold serious talks with all interested parties before making a final decision. The £30m release clause, triggered by Ipswich's relegation, has made Liam Delap an attractive target, especially after he scored 12 goals in his first season in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, United are in talks for Matheus Cunha, 25, and hope to complete the deal once the summer transfer window opens on June 1. So far, talks have focused on personal terms, with both parties working to reach a mutual agreement.
Although United have yet to make direct contact with Wolves over the terms of the £62.5m release clause, it is expected that this will be a formality. Cunha's contract stipulates that the fee will be paid in three instalments, the first on signing, followed by two equal instalments over the next two years. Wolves are open to paying him in instalments, but it remains to be seen whether United will seek more favourable terms.
United have the funds to sign Liam Delap and Cunha regardless of the outcome of the Europa League final against Tottenham, with the winner securing a place in next season's UEFA Champions League. In addition to Delap and Cunha, the team has also considered other names in attack, such as Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres and Napoli's Victor Osimhen. With these reinforcements, United aim to strengthen the attacking department and return to the title race, giving manager Ruben Amorim the opportunity to have more options up front.
