Manchester United are considering a bid for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta. The Red Devils are in talks with the player's representatives to secure a move to Old Trafford at the end of the season. However, Crystal Palace will be keen to make the most of a potential sale for Mateta. Palace value the player at around £40m.
That fee is affordable for United, but the Red Devils would have to offload some of their current squad to raise the funds needed to buy Mateta. Rasmus Hojlund cost the Red Devils a whopping €72m, but the Danish striker has only scored two Premier League goals this season and is slowly losing the trust of manager Ruben Amorim. Joshua Zirkzee has also failed to live up to expectations this season, which is another reason why United are monitoring Mateta.
The Frenchman has scored 15 goals for Crystal Palace this season in all competitions. Given that the player is well-suited to Premier League football, this makes him a perfect alternative in the eyes of coach Amorim. The Portuguese coach is looking for an established striker who can convert scoring chances, but at the same time an intelligent player with a presence on the pitch who can lead the entire offensive department.
Another option for the attack that Amorim is very fond of is Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres. The Portuguese coach worked with the striker when he was in charge of Sporting, but his transfer fee is expected to reach the figures of 80 million pounds. That is quite a high value for Manchester United at the moment.
