Manchester United leaders want to strengthen the center back for next season, and the club's board have already set targets in the summer transfer window for the position. The Red Devils have targeted Jarrad Branthwaite, Gleison Bremer and Jean-Clair Todibo as the main targets to strengthen the backline.
Branthwaite has emerged as a name on United's wishlist in recent weeks, while Juventus star Gleison Bremer has long been under the English club's radar. The "Red Devils" have also sent their representatives to see Todibo in action. The latter is activated with Nice in France. Branthwaite and Todibo both have active contracts with their respective clubs until 2027. Bremer meanwhile has an active contract with Juventus until 2028.
Branthwaite has attracted the attention of many European clubs, after a very successful season with Everton. The managers of the club are forced to sell one of their most expensive players, to balance the financial records and to respect the rules of the Premier League. This could make it easier for rival clubs to secure the defender's signature. However, the competition is expected to be fierce.
As for Todibo, the Frenchman is also highly admired by United's management, but his move to Old Trafford looks set to be difficult. Some heavyweights on the Nice board are said to be preparing to reject any kind of offer that comes their way for the talented defender.
United desperately needs new defenders in the team, as it was seen last season, the back was the team's most problematic department. Taking into account the departure of Rafael Varane, as well as the still unclear future of Harry Maguire, the need for a defender becomes more and more concrete.
