The English media have reported that the coach of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, has decided to renew his contract with the English club, until the summer of 2026. This was the news that all the fans of the "citizens" were waiting for, and it seems that Guardiola still has desire to win trophies at the Etihad. We recall that the Spanish technician joined City in 2016, and has won a total of 18 trophies so far with the club, including 6 Premier League titles, 2 FA Cups and the UEFA Champions League.
The decision to renew the contract comes at a delicate time for the club, both on and off the field. City have been defeated in the last 4 games, where the most recent defeat was against Brighton in the championship. At the same time, the future of some veteran players, quite important in the club like Kevin de Bruyne, is unclear. Manchester City will also face 115 Premier League charges of potentially breaching financial fair play rules.
Another big problem for Manchester City at the moment are injuries. Kyle Walker, Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias and John Stones are unavailable for manager Guardiola, while Foden and Gundogan are yet to find their best form this season. Rodri, meanwhile, will be out until the end of the season, and Guardiola will have to decide now whether or not the club will bring in a replacement for the Spaniard in the January transfer window.
After the 4-1 defeat against Sporting in the Champions League, the City coach expressed his motivation for the new challenges that the "citizens" have ahead of them. It seems Guardiola is still hungry to win more trophies at the Etihad and has no intention of stopping.
