Manchester City has reached an agreement with the French side Rennes for the transfer of Belgian striker Jeremy Doku to the Etihad. The talented winger has scored 12 goals in 92 appearances for the Ligue 1 side, and has impressed with his performances, especially during the last season. The dock will thus be the third major purchase for the "citizens" in this summer market.
We recall that City also brought Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea to the team, as well as the Croatian Josko Guardiol from RB Leipzig in Germany. Doku's transfer is expected to cost Manchester City £55.4 million. The player is already in England, where he is expected to undergo a medical before the transfer is finalised.
Chelsea, Tottenham and West Ham also expressed an interest in the player, but City have apparently managed to beat off the competition. Doc will have to fight for the starting spot, in a team with quite talented players, not only in his position. However, Kevin de Bruyne's injury is a factor that could create more space for non-title players in Guardiola's squad.
Departures have also not been absent from City, as Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan have ended their adventure at the Etihad. At the same time, the "citizens" have accepted an offer from Al-Nassr for the Spanish defender Laporte. Joao Cancelo is also expected to leave, as the Portuguese is close to a loan move to Barcelona.
Meanwhile, at the Manchester City camp, coach Pep Guardiola is expected to miss his team's next two matches due to health reasons. The Spaniard has undergone a minor operation, due to constant spinal pain. It is known that Pep traveled to Barcelona to perform the intervention and the operation went smoothly. Guardiola will miss City's away games against Sheffield United and Fulham at home.
