Liverpool defenders Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez are back in training with the rest of the team. The 2 defense giants were out of the green fields for a long time, after severe physical injuries.
Dutchman Van Dijk has spent more than 9 months off the field, after the injury received in the match against Everton last October. The 30-year-old suffered a rupture in the knee ligament, which required intervention to recover. On the other hand, Gomez lost 8 months off the field after a knee injury, taken in training session with the English national team in November.
Both players returned to the field in the friendly match between Liverpool and Hertha Berlin. Despite the activation of the stars in the defensive department, "The Reds"Conceded 4 goals, losing the match 4-3. However, this loss did not upset coach Jurgen Klopp at all, who expressed his happiness for the return of his players from injury. Germany stated after the match:
"It was a good feeling. Virg did not play football for about 260 days, and so did Joe. So it is a pleasure to see them back. This was the first step and it was very important. "
It was Van Dijk himself who after the match expressed his gratitude to the fans who have supported him constantly, during this very difficult period for him. The player posted on Twitter:
"285 days ago, I started a journey for them back on the field. "It's not easy to express how I feel, but it's important for me to say that I'm grateful for the support of so many extraordinary people."
The Reds suffered a crisis in the defensive department last season, closing the Premier League in third place. Anyway, Klopp's confidants seem to be on the right track this year, as they will already be a consolidated team on defense again.
