Liverpool are trying to convince talented midfielder Adam Wharton to leave Crystal Palace and complete a £50m move to Anfield. The Liverpool board have made the young midfielder top of their list of targets, believing his vision and quick passing could make Arne Slot's side work perfectly.
Wharton, a 21-year-old who joined Palace from boyhood club Blackburn in early 2024, has shown extraordinary talent in the Premier League this season. His ability to "excite" the pitch and deliver precise passes to attackers has seen him emerge as one of the most promising stars of the future. However, before the player can consider a sensational move to the Reds, he needs to rediscover his best form.
Injury problems have hampered Wharton this season. After undergoing surgery in November, he was sidelined for three months, missing most of the season. This has prevented him from finding his rhythm, despite then-England manager Gareth Southgate offering the midfielder a place in the Euro 2024 squad.
If Liverpool can present the English side with a convincing project, including playing in the UEFA Champions League, Wharton could see Anfield as the ideal destination for the next step in his career. Crystal Palace are expected to demand a high figure for his card, as the midfielder still has more than four years left on his contract with the club. Furthermore, his old club, Blackburn, claim the right to 15 percent of the profit on the £18 million that Palace paid for him 15 months ago.
Clubs such as Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have also emerged as distant admirers of the midfielder, but his continued lack of appearances this season has deterred any concrete offers from rival clubs. However, Wharton has played every game since his return, showing that he is physically and mentally ready for a new challenge. With a midfield in need of freshness and variety, Liverpool will be hoping to convince Wharton to join them to realise the club's ambitious ambitions this summer.
