Reliable sports sources report that Virgil van Dijk has been informed that he should focus on Liverpool, and will not be part of the Netherlands in Euro 2020. The defender has been out of the green since October, where he seriously damaged the ligament in his right knee. Van Dijk underwent a successful operation to recover, and in March posted a video on social media where he appeared running. But apparently, all this effort has not been enough.
Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp, has reiterated his desire for the defender not to be active with the Dutch national team in the summer. But despite the "pressure" from Klopp, the boss of the Dutch national team Frank de Boer, wants something completely different. He has made it clear that he will ask Virgil van Dijk to be part of his team if he can prove he is in the right physical condition. The coach told the media:
"I talked to him (Van Dijk) and he is currently training. There may be various obstacles in the way. "If something goes wrong it means he will miss the game against Liverpool."
Frank de Boer also added:
"In the end he (Van Dijk) must have a good sense of his own condition. We will watch whatever happens. I did not put any pressure on him. I think the final choice belongs only to him. "
Paradoxically, Khalid Boulahrouz, part of the staff of the Dutch national team, supports Jurgen Klopp in the idea that Virgil van Dijk should not participate in Euro 2020. The former footballer has come out against De Boer himself. At the moment we are talking that whatever happens is still unclear, but close friends of the Liverpool defender, unofficially, suggest that Van Dijk wants to play at all costs with the Netherlands during the prestigious competition.
