After the sacking of Jose Mourinho, the leaders of Roma have appointed the legend of the club, Daniele de Rossi, as the new coach. De Rossi will be at the head of the bench until the end of this season, but the possibility of a long-term contract is not ruled out, if the club leaders are convinced by the abilities of the former player.
Mourinho, meanwhile, was fired after 3 years in charge of the club. The Portuguese started his career in the capital in 2021, and managed to triumph with the team in the Europa Conference League. Last year, Mourinho also led the team to the Europa League final, but Roma failed to win the trophy. However, the form of the current season seems to have been unacceptable for the managers of Roma, who have chosen to sever the relationship with "The Special One". Roma currently holds the 9th place in the ranking of Serie A, 5 points away from the Champions League zone. In addition, the team was eliminated from the Coppa Italia, after the defeat to rivals Lazio.
Meanwhile, as for Daniele de Rossi, the former player is one of the most respected figures of the club. He is a product of the Roma academy and in his long career with the team he has been activated a total of 616 times, from 2001 to 2019. De Rossi gave up playing football in 2020. In terms of his coaching experience , De Rossi was in charge of SPAL in Serie B for 17 games before being sacked by the club. Roma's new coach expressed himself very excited about the new task:
"The emotion of sitting on the bench of our club is indescribable, everyone knows what Rome means to me, but the work that we all have to do, already occupies the main place in my mind..."
