Barcelona do not have the financial capacity to register strikers Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, La Liga has declared. The Catalans were granted a temporary license by La Liga to register Olmo and Victor last summer.
However, their registrations were revoked in January by La Liga, which argued that Barcelona had not proven compliance with the league's financial regulations by the deadline set on December 31.
Spain's sports council (CSD) has given Barcelona permission to temporarily reinstate Olmo and Victor after an appeal, with a final decision on their registration expected by April 7. Barcelona, who lead La Liga and are in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, announced on January 3 a deal to sell VIP boxes at their under-renovated Nou Camp stadium to raise 100 million euros. But La Liga says the deal was not included in Barcelona's accounts for the 2024-25 season and that the deal was approved by a separate, unnamed auditor.
"No amount from the VIP box deal has been definitively recorded in the profit and loss accounts, other than what was certified by the club and the auditor at the time of the transaction."
La Liga also said it would report the auditor to the Accounting and Auditing Institute.
"Barcelona did not have on December 31, 2024, nor on January 3, 2025, nor does it currently have the financial capacity to register the players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor."
In response, Barcelona president Joan Laporta told reporters that La Liga's letter was "an attempt to damage the club's image and go against the interests of FC Barcelona." Olmo, 26, joined Barcelona from RB Leipzig in a £52m deal last summer. He has made 28 appearances this season, including 13 since the CSD ruling. Victor, 23, a product of Barcelona's academy, has played 22 times this season and five times since the ruling.
