In an exclusive interview for Sky Sports, French defender Raphael Varane has indicated that with the transfer to Manchester United, he has fulfilled an old ambition of his. But the story of the defender with "Red Devils" did not start this summer market.
It was 2011, when the biggest European clubs were trying to bring Varane closer to their squad. At the time, Alex Ferguson knocked on the door of Varane's home in Lille, trying to persuade the footballer's mother that the Frenchman should join United. As is known, this did not happen, and after the intervention of Zinedine Zidane, the footballer joined Real Madrid. Despite this, the meeting with Ferguson seems to have left an unforgettable mark on Varane's memory. Defender said:
"It was a special moment for me and my family. It is fantastic to know a person like him (Ferguson) when you are 18 years old. After that, I think it's your destiny. 10 years in Madrid and now I am here. "
Varane certainly has no regrets. During his stay at Madrid he won a total of 18 trophies, including 4 Champions Leagues. Alex Ferguson he also has no reason to feel bad, as he watched Varane's debut with United, in the match against Wolves.
The Frenchman sees his arrival in England as a new challenge. He added:
"I want to become a better player. This is my mentality. I want to push myself and improve. This is another competition (Premier League) and the atmosphere is different. It’s all something new to me, but I’ve enjoyed it so far. Getting Manchester United back on top is something difficult. But, I have noticed that people want to win and do good things for this club. That motivates me a lot. ”
