West Ham star Lucas Paqueta has responded to speculation about a possible transfer to Manchester City in the summer transfer window. The Brazilian has been linked several times with Pep Guardiola's team, while some English media have gone even further, saying that the player has accepted the personal terms of the contract with Manchester City. Last summer the footballer was very close to the transfer to the Etihad, but it seems that now Paqueta feels happy in London.
In a recent interview with ESPN, the player said:
"I have to do my job here at West Ham. I have great respect for the club. I'm very happy here, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't. Of course, there is a lot going on off the field, but I remain focused on doing my best, to finish the season well. What they say about Manchester City is all from the past market. Now is the time to close the season and then wait for what will happen."
Last summer City filled the space in midfield by bringing in Matheus Nunes. However, in the case of Bernardo Silva's departure, the "citizens" will be looking for another attacking midfielder, and Paqueta would be the perfect purchase for City.
The Brazilian is expected to be busy with his national team, in the Copa America this year during the summer. A potential problem that could stop Paqueta's move to Manchester City is the player's involvement in illegal betting. Last year the West Ham star was under investigation by the authorities, and this was one of the reasons why the transfer to the "citizens" failed. Once again, City leaders want to be convinced before taking a step to sign the Brazilian.
