The midfielder of Manchester City, Kalvin Phillips, has stated that he will soon make a decision on his future with the "citizens". Since his move from Leeds, Phillips has failed to find a place in Pep Guardiola's team. This season, the midfielder has appeared only 3 times, as a substitute. Despite this fact, Kalvin was part of the English national team in the 3-1 victory over Italy. At the end of the meeting, he said:
"I know I have to play games and compete every weekend. I have to make a decision about my future in the next few months. He (Gareth Southgate) tells me that to keep my place in the national team I have to play games. This is what I want to do. I agree with Gareth on this part.”
Phillips added:
"I want to play football and play as much as possible. During the last year I have not been able to do this due to injuries and other factors. That's something I need to think about. I hope my chance comes, but if it doesn't then I have to make other decisions."
However, the chances of Kalvin regaining his place as a starter at City, or simply getting more playing minutes, seem slim. Coach Guardiola criticized the midfielder after his return from the World Cup in Qatar, as he declared that Phillips had become overweight at the end of the competition.
Meanwhile, the City midfielder was also activated as a substitute in England's friendly against Australia, where the "3 Lions" won by a minimum score of 1-0. England qualified for next year's European. It remains to be seen whether Phillips will retain his positions as Southgate's favorite despite his lack of minutes played this season.
