In his official presentation to Barcelona, Ilkay Gundogan said that he still has a lot to prove at the Catalan club. The German midfielder of Turkish origin decided to join the Spanish giants after winning all the possible trophies during his adventure at Manchester City. But it seems that Gundogan still has ambitions to win trophies, and to bring success to Barcelona. The player said during his presentation:
"Even though I am older, I am prepared for this challenge and I still have a lot to prove. The style of play is very similar to that of Manchester City. Guardiola and Xavi are very similar. I felt a connection with Xavi from the first moment we spoke. When I spoke with him I understood that Barcelona is in the right direction."
The talented midfielder added:
"Barcelona is an exceptional team and an opportunity to play in another championship and another country. We will try to fight for the Champions League title. Wearing this shirt is a responsibility and I will try to give my best, to win as many titles as possible."
Gundogan also emphasized the importance of his experience as a midfielder, and the opportunity to share this experience with the young talents at Barcelona:
"I come with experience because my life and career have not been easy, and I think my experience can help a lot. They (Barcelona's youngsters) are a group of players who play better than me. If I can help them by at least 1% I will be happy.”
We recall that Gundogan joined Barcelona at zero cost from Manchester City, after the expiration of his contract with the English. The player signed for 2 years with the Spanish giants.
