Chelsea manager Frank Lampard believes his team can overturn a 2-0 loss to Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final. The London Blues were defeated by the Spaniards at the Bernabeu and qualifying for the semi-finals already seems a very difficult mission. However, Lampard still has faith in his team. The English technician spoke to the media after the loss:
"Special things can happen at Stamford Bridge. We have to keep believing."
Lampard was also asked by reporters about Chelsea's struggles in front of goal. The Blues have failed to find the back of the net in their last 4 games in all competitions and this has not happened since 1993. The English coach commented:
"Sometimes it's about confidence, it can be individual or for the whole team. If we keep working we can change. Take Mason Mount's goal at the end of the match, if it had ended in the net the game would have been different... The players don't know how good they are. They have a lot of talent. Next week will be a big battle. There are some details related to our mentality where we need to be more positive."
Mario Melchiot, a former Chelsea player who won the FA Cup in 200 years with the Londoners, commented on the team's form this season, underlining the need for a quality striker in the squad. Melchiot said:
"Chelsea has talent in their squad, they have the ability. They need a striker, but those who are playing at the moment also need to express more desire to find the goal."
The famous former Premier League striker, Chris Sutton, is of the same opinion, as he has asked for more commitment and active involvement in the game, from Chelsea's offensive line.
