The coach of Tottenham, Ange Postecoglou, has stated that there must be changes in his team. The London club are currently fifth in the Premier League table, but the Australian coach's men have been beaten in their last 3 games, including a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea. Commenting on his team's recent results, coach Ange Postecoglou emphasized the need for changes in the team:
"I have to make changes in this team. I have to because I have to build a team that can play our football. For this to happen, there must be departures. We need change, change must happen. You can't expect to change direction instantly…and have the same players follow that direction. It's not going to happen. We've been active in 2 markets and we've had some players who have developed, but when I say we still have a long way to go, that's what I mean."
Ange Postecoglou further clarified his opinion:
"To play a certain way, you have to train a certain way, and you have to have a certain mentality and that's not for everyone. It's the same for Liverpool or Arsenal, if you see the beginning of their journey, the moment they win a trophy or are successful, their team is not recognized by the first one."
However, despite the need for change highlighted by Postecoglou, Tottenham have approached quite a few new players since his arrival at the head of the bench. Among them we can mention James Maddison, Brennan Johnson, Micky van de Ven, and goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. Meanwhile, among the players who left the London club were Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and the legendary goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
