Positive news for all football fans! Secretary of Culture of the United Kingdom, Oliver dowden strongly believes that a large number of fans, may be present at Wembly during the later stages of the competition. This is fantastic news, considering that the legendary arena will host 7 full matches of European, including the 2 semifinals and the grand final.
Starting May 17, according to British government rules, stadiums can accommodate up to 10.000 fans. This number is expected to be higher, up to the full capacity of the stadium after June 21. This is because June 21 is the official date set by the government for the lifting of all anti-covid measures.
Oliver Dowden told SkySport News:
"For the matches that come later in Euro 2020, I think we will see a lot more than 10,000 fans in stadiums. But, we must find a safe way to do this. "I have a lot of hope and I am optimistic that we will see many more people in the stadiums after the first matches."
This scenario already seems 100% feasible. Especially after the confirmation of the Minister of Sports, Nigel Huddleston that the Wimbledon and Formula 1 competitions will take place in the presence of spectators. According to recent BBC reports, specialists have developed several possible scenarios on the number of fans that can sit on the Wembly stairs. From the data, it is estimated that 20,000 seats is an achievable target, which is also being worked on by the authorities.
At the moment it seems that things are in the right direction, with other federations in Europe following the same line, expressing quite optimism for the future. Anyway, everything will depend on the progress of the pandemic, but the vaccination process in European countries is another hopeful guarantee for the tournament organizers.
