UEFA has given the green light of approval for a very important rule, valid for this year's European matches. In every match of Euro 2020, up to 5 substitutions will be allowed for each team. The highest authority of European football said that the decision came after this rule is already present and in qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup. UEFA added that the rule will be valid for the Nations League, which will take place in October this year.
Another supporting reasoning is the fact that the Euro 2020 matches will take place according to agendas that are relatively tedious, and do not leave much time for players to recover. The COVID pandemic put football institutions around the world in a very difficult position, which were forced to think of alternative solutions after the cancellation of the competition.
Rule 5 replacements has been implemented for some time now, and in Champions League and Europa League.
Meanwhile in terms of fan participation in the competition, recent news has been positive. UEFA officials have indicated that they will rely on PCR tests to decide on capacity at certain stadiums. Also the European football government withdrew its latest decision on the figure of no more than 30% turnout in stadiums. Thus, the organizing states have in their hands the decision on this issue.
But, UEFA still upheld its decision not to allow in foreign stadiums, ie foreign fans of the friendly team. This was somewhat justified given the movement restrictions imposed by many European countries due to the pandemic. However, even this decision is expected to be reviewed for the final stage of the competition.
