The world of sports was in shock on Saturday, as during the match Denmark - Finland, the Danish captain Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest and fell on the green field. The drama was great, not only for his national teammates, but for every fan in the stadium and those who watched the live television broadcast. Thankfully, everything is well closed and Eriksen is fully conscious and on the verge of recovery, at a private hospital in Copenhagen.
However, there have been many questions about the episode, and some of them have been answered by the Danish national team doctor, Morten Boesen. The latter stated:
"We immediately started the rescue procedure and we succeeded. How close were we to losing Eriksen? I can not say that, but he became conscious after only 1 defibrillation, so quite quickly. "
Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand also commented on the event, expressing his gratitude for the team of doctors and their intervention:
"It was fantastic to see Eriksen smiling again. The speed with which they (the medical team) reacted was decisive. The time between the event happening and getting help is the most important factor, and it happened pretty quickly. The hospital is conducting a series of tests as to why this may have happened, in order to get the answers that interest us all. "The tests performed so far are positive, but we still have no idea why it happened."
Hjulmand also added that Erikesn was more concerned about the squad, and that he wanted to return to the green as soon as possible. He added that Christian is an extraordinary man, but now, the team has to gather itself to play the remaining Euro 2020 matches without their captain on the field.
