Calvert-Lewin is available for a zero-cost transfer after leaving Everton, and Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has long admired him.
The Magpies, who have secured Champions League qualification for next season, were also interested in him last summer but were put off by the cost of the deal. However, Newcastle are not the only club interested in Calvert-Lewin. He is also on Manchester United's list of possible attacking reinforcements this summer.
The Red Devils are in need of added attacking power and are turning their attention elsewhere after failing to sign Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres. Calvert-Lewin was also a target for Leeds United, but the Yorkshire club were unable to meet his financial demands.
If Howe manages to secure Calvert-Lewin, he would provide competition for star striker Alexander Isak. Callum Wilson, who has played a supporting role to Isak, has announced he will leave the club after his contract expired. Although Calvert-Lewin will face stiff competition for the title, football expert Alan Pardew believes he has plenty to offer.
However, the key to any deal will be his playing time, having missed 15 games last season through injury. Pardew suggests that if a deal were to be done, there would be conditions on the number of games he would have to play to reach a certain financial threshold. Calvert-Lewin joined Everton in 2016 from Sheffield United for a fee of £1.5m. In 273 appearances, he scored 71 goals and provided 22 assists.
