Chelsea are planning to challenge Real Madrid in the bid to sign Como attacking midfielder Nico Paz in an ambitious move. The talented 21-year-old has shown great potential in Serie A, and Real Madrid are planning to bring him back with a buy-back clause in his contract next summer.
However, Chelsea have also expressed interest in Paz and appear ready to make an offer for him. Currently, it seems that Paz is closer to returning to Madrid, but Como wants to offer him a new contract that will remove the return clause, in order to maximize the profits from his transfer.
If Nico Paz has agreed to return to Real Madrid then Chelsea could be in for a tough time, but strong interest from Chelsea's recruitment team suggests there is hope for a deal. He fits perfectly into the Chelsea owners' strategy, and if he agrees a new deal with Como, it could pave the way for a big-money move to Stamford Bridge.
Como values Nico Paz at around €80m, making it reasonable for them to try to prevent his return to Madrid at a low price. Real Madrid remain confident of his return to the Bernabeu, but Como will try to negotiate a new contract to remove the release clause, in the hope that they can sell him for a high price.
This situation will remain under observation, as Chelsea seem to be taking this transfer seriously, and it is likely that other big clubs will also engage in the race for Paz in the future.
