Bayern Munich are considering signing Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace, following the negative news of Florian Wirtz's transfer to Liverpool. The Bundesliga champions were prepared to pay a big fee for the Leverkusen star, but after learning that Wirtz wants to move to Anfield, they are now looking at alternative plans.
Brighton's Kaoru Mitoma and AC Milan's Rafael Leao are on their shortlist, but discussions are currently focused on Eze. The 26-year-old midfielder's contract contains a release clause of £60m plus an additional £8m, which will be triggered again at the end of the season. Crystal Palace have a good relationship with Bayern Munich after selling Michael Oliseh for £50.8m last summer.
Eze was a target for Manchester City in the last transfer window, and is expected to attract renewed interest from Premier League clubs. However, his release clause expires around two weeks before the summer transfer window closes, making timing a critical factor in this transfer. The Eagles are keen to keep hold of their star man and plan to open contract talks after a successful season.
His goal in the FA Cup final gave Crystal Palace their first major title in history, also securing qualification for the Europa League for the first time. Manager Oliver Glasner is hoping to build the team around Eze and strengthen the squad to face the European challenges in the new season.
However, Palace are aware that Eze could be looking for a new challenge at a club playing in the UEFA Champions League after five years in south London. If Bayern or another European club offer a convincing project and the release clause is triggered, Eze could leave. For now, Crystal Palace will do everything they can to keep the player at Selhurst Park and strengthen the squad around their greatest talent.
