Midfield is not an area that Barcelona have prioritized during the summer transfer window, but that could change if an opportunity arises in the market. In recent days, Hansi Flick has kept the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Marc Casado, Gavi, and, despite the injury, Marc Bernal in the squad, who provide defensive-oriented options. However, before the start of next season, it is possible that more names will be added to this position.
If Barcelona decide to invest in a pivotal player, Bruno Guimaraes would be a high name on the list. The Newcastle captain is a long-term target and in recent weeks there have been reports that Barcelona could look to sign him in the summer, especially if Frenkie de Jong does not sign a new contract with the club.
Barcelona's difficult financial situation continues to weigh on them, as the club faces economic challenges and is not expected to have much available, even with La Liga's return to a 1-1 draw rule in January. However, sporting director Deco has some funds at his disposal, and a large part of that could be dedicated to the purchase of Guimaraes, who could be available for a low price.
According to Diario AS, Newcastle have agreed that Guimaraes could be released for £60m (€71m) if the team does not finish in the Premier League Champions League places at the end of the season. This could be a good opportunity for Barcelona, but also for Arsenal, where sporting director Andrea Berta has been a long-time admirer of the Brazilian midfielder and tried three times to sign him during his time at Atletico Madrid.
