Arsenal captain, Martin Odegaard, is expected to be out of action for at least 3 weeks, after the injury sustained in the challenge against Austria. Doctors of the Norwegian national team announced that the player has received an injury to his left ankle, and the recovery period may be even longer than 3 weeks. The midfielder has returned to London to undergo further examinations. Coach Mikel Arteta is expected to give more details about Odegaard's injury, on the eve of the challenge against Tottenham.
Ola Sande, part of the medical staff in the Norwegian national team said:
"What we know so far from the results of the scanner in London is the fact that there are no fractures in the left wrist. At Arsenal they are convinced that there is no break, but this again may take its time to recover. In the case of a fracture, we are dealing with 6 or more weeks out."
If Arsenal's talented midfielder misses just 3 weeks, he will miss 5 Arsenal matches, including a crucial Premier League clash with Manchester City. The London club will face Tottenham on Sunday without Odegard, Rice who is suspended, and Merino, who is also injured. The midfield of the "gunners" has taken a heavy blow at the beginning of the season, and we are waiting to see how coach Mikel Arteta will manage the situation.
The Italian defender, Riccardo Calafiori, is also in doubt to be activated in the challenge against Tottenham. The player got an injury in the challenge against France, but fortunately not that serious. However, Arteta may decide to give Calafiori more time to recover properly.
