Arsenal are considering a move for Chelsea striker Christopher Nkunku as Mikel Arteta looks to add more attacking options this summer. The former Leipzig man, 27, could leave Stamford Bridge after failing to establish himself as a regular first-team regular. He is open to a move away but wants to get consistent game time at his new club.
Nkunku joined Chelsea last summer for £52m after a brilliant spell at Leipzig where he scored 70 goals in 172 appearances. However, he has started just nine Premier League games this season and a lack of minutes has not stopped Arsenal from keeping an eye on the striker.
The Gunners are looking to bolster their attacking options and believe Nkunku would suit Arteta's tactical style well. However, they are not the only ones in the running. Barcelona and several Bundesliga clubs are also reportedly keeping a close eye on the Frenchman.
Sources close to the media have confirmed that Chelsea could sell Nkunku for just £40m, a price that is considered an excellent opportunity for interested clubs. There is expected to be a lot of movement in the London club's transfer window, and among the six players who could leave include: Noni Madueke, Trevoh Chalobah, Kiernan Dewsbury Hall, Andrey Santos and Joao Felix.
Chelsea could have sold Nkunku in January but decided to keep him, hoping for a better offer this summer and also because of the shirt number he could use as part of another deal. Meanwhile, Arsenal have also held talks with Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP and Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, in an attempt to find the best options to strengthen their attacking department.
