Arsenal are showing interest in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich, according to German media. Kimmich's contract expires at the end of the season, and he is free to talk to clubs outside Germany about a possible transfer. However, Arsenal have not commented on reports suggesting they have held talks with the player's representatives.
Meanwhile, talks over a new deal for Kimmich with Bayern are ongoing, reflecting the importance of the move in strengthening the midfield. The move would be a strategic move for Arsenal, especially given that midfield is a priority in the upcoming transfer window. Also, with Thomas Partey and Jorginho out of contract in the summer, it opens up an opportunity for renewal and a restructuring of the squad.
Arsenal are also reportedly close to finalising a deal for Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, which shows the club's efforts to improve their midfield positions. While recruiting a new midfielder is not out of the question, Arsenal are expected to exploit the potential they already have within the squad.
Joshua Kimmich, 30, has enjoyed a stellar career at Bayern Munich, making 435 appearances over 10 seasons and scoring 43 goals. He played a key role in Bayern's Champions League triumph in 2019/20 and is an eight-time Bundesliga winner. Although he plays primarily as a central midfielder, he is equally comfortable at right-back, a flexibility that has made him a favourite with manager Vincent Kompany this season. Kimmich has also been capped 97 times by Germany, scoring seven goals.
With these strategic changes, Arsenal hopes to strengthen its position as a serious contender in the championship.
