Arsenal have confirmed that Jurrien Timber has suffered knee ligament damage and will undergo surgery in the coming days. The Dutchman joined the Londoners from Ajax this summer but had no luck on his Arsenal debut. The 22-year-old left the field limping in the 50th minute in the challenge against Nottingham Forest. However, only today has the club commented on the extent of the damage.
In an official statement, Arsenal stated that Timber will be sidelined for a period, without specifying exactly how long Timber may need to return:
"The support and expertise of our medical staff and everyone at the club will be focused on Timber's rehabilitation to ensure he recovers well and returns as soon as possible."
Meanwhile, the player himself was very upset about the news, saying that the injury turned out to be more serious than he thought at first. Timber caught the eye with his performances last season with Ajax. The player was active in 47 matches with the Dutch, including 6 matches in the Champions League. Timber was also instrumental in Ajax's championship triumphs in 2021 and 2022.
The serious injury of the Dutchman is not the only one among Premier League clubs. Manchester City will be without Kevin de Bruyne for at least 4 months. The Belgian was also injured in the opening game of the championship, and City's medical staff are deciding whether surgery will be necessary.
Aston Villa have also lost 2 very important players who are suffering long-term injuries. It is about midfielder Emi Buendia and defender Tyrone Mings. The latter was also injured in the first game of this season in the Premier League.
