Newcastle defender Dan Burn has expressed his delight that the transfer saga of former teammate Alexander Isak has come to an end.
Swedish striker Isak joined Liverpool from Newcastle on deadline day for a British record fee of £125m. The move came after weeks of uncertainty and a dispute between Isak and Newcastle, with the 25-year-old wanting to leave but the club refusing to sell.
Speaking to the media ahead of England's World Cup qualifier against Andorra, Dan Burn said he has "no animosity" towards Isak. He expressed his desire for the transfer window to close to bring some clarity to the situation.
"Alex is a friend, so it's a difficult situation. You want to have him around to help the team, but he's also got personal things to do, so I have nothing but good wishes for him," said Dan Burn. He admitted the transfer saga had cast a shadow over Newcastle's preparations for the 2025-26 season.
“It was frustrating to be in this situation, knowing there was something weighing us down, but I have enough experience in football to understand how it works.” Isak joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad for £60m in 2022, scoring 27 goals in 42 games last season. He helped the Magpies win the Carabao Cup in March and finish fifth in the Premier League, securing qualification for the Champions League.
Following interest from Liverpool this summer, Isak released a statement saying promises from Newcastle had been "broke", stressing that their relationship could not continue. However, after signing other strikers, Newcastle accepted Liverpool's record bid.
