Gibbs-White has emerged as a potential summer option for Manchester City after Kevin De Bruyne announced he would leave at the end of the season. The Belgian has won six Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League with City, which will leave a huge void in the team's midfield. Gibbs-White could become the chosen replacement after another excellent season with Forest. However, Nuno Espirito Santo's side value the England international in the same range as City spent on Jack Grealish. Manchester City bought Grealish from Aston Villa for £100m in 2021, a then-record fee for a British player. That record was broken in 2023 when Declan Rice left West Ham for Arsenal in a £105m move.
Gibbs-White joined Forest after their promotion back to the Premier League in 2022 in a £25m plus add-ons deal from Wolves. The 25-year-old has made 110 appearances in all competitions since then, scoring 16 goals and assisting another 27. Former England manager Lee Carsley handed the midfielder his first international call-up in September as a reward for his fine form. Gibbs-White made his first two appearances for the Three Lions in the Nations League wins over Ireland and Greece.
Although he has yet to win a major trophy in his career, that could change in the coming weeks as Forest prepare for the FA Cup semi-final. They face City at Wembley on April 27, in a season that looks set to see an unexpected finish in the Premier League's top five.
Forest are currently third on 57 points, four points ahead of Chelsea and Newcastle in the remaining UEFA Champions League places. If Forest finish in the top five of the Premier League, the two-time European Cup winners will play in the UEFA Champions League for the first time since the 1980/81 season. They play Everton on Saturday, looking to close the gap on second-placed Arsenal by just two points.
