Jack Grealish looks set for a new chapter in his career, with Manchester City planning to make a £40m bid for him this summer. The England star, 29, has admitted his time at City is over and he will become one of the most sought-after players in Europe.
Three English clubs are monitoring the situation: Tottenham, Newcastle and his boyhood club, Aston Villa. Outside England, Napoli are eyeing Grealish as a key midfield reinforcement as Antonio Conte looks to build a team that can compete in the Champions League. Now Bayer Leverkusen are also approaching him, with coach Erik ten Hag considering him the “perfect replacement” for Florian Wirtz, who is set to leave for Liverpool.
With Wirtz gone, Liverpool will receive a record fee for him, and that will give Ten Hag a huge transfer window. He has already sealed a deal for goalkeeper Mark Flekken and now intends to use part of the budget to persuade Grealish to leave the Premier League.
Jack Grealish is open to an adventure abroad and wants to regain his place in the England squad for the next World Cup. A return to Aston Villa, where he grew up as a player, is very appealing to him, but the lack of Champions League competition could be a disadvantage in his decision.
Newcastle offered Grealish a loan deal but with his wages of £300,000 a week, they would have to pay him in full to seal the deal. England manager Thomas Tuchel, a huge admirer of his, is keen to see the player playing regularly to reintegrate him into the national team.
With multiple options on the table, Grealish will have the opportunity to choose an ambitious project, where he can be the main protagonist and compete for major trophies. However, any move will depend on the sporting project, the ambitions in the Champions League and the financial offer that the future club will guarantee.
