Tottenham are facing a challenge to convince Antoine Semenyo to join them from Bournemouth. Ghanaian star Semenyo, 25, has a release clause of £65m which allows him to leave before January 10.
Spurs are one of several clubs showing a keen interest in the player, who has scored six goals and provided three assists in the Premier League so far this season. The Londoners need more attacking firepower to compete on several fronts, and the Bournemouth man seems the perfect option.
According to sources, Semenyo is still hesitant to join Tottenham, and the situation was similar in the summer, when the club wanted to make a move for the player. He ended up renewing his contract with the Cherries on July 1, which contains a release clause that will be reduced by £5m next summer.
Tottenham would be keen to have Semenyo play alongside his Ghana international teammate Mohammed Kudus. The pair will be Ghana's main attacking threat against England at the World Cup next summer. The left wing has been a problem position for Thomas Frank this season.
The Dane has tried a number of players, including Wilson Odobert, Brennan Johnson, Randal Kolo Muani and Xavi Simons, but none have convinced him.
Meanwhile, it is reported that Semenyo would be far more tempted to leave if he received an offer from one of the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool or Arsenal. Spurs will be particularly wary of Arsenal if they decide to make a move for the striker, having lost their target Eberechi Eze to the London rivals in the summer when they were very close to signing him. City, Arsenal and Liverpool are monitoring his progress and could make a move next month.
