The technical director of Milan, Paolo Maldini, has reassured the red and black fans, shedding light on the rumors about the future of Rafael Leao. During the summer transfer window, it was rumored that Chelsea were interested in the services of the Portuguese, as the latter performed quite well last season, registering 11 goals and 8 assists. The London club failed to secure the attacker's card in the summer, while Leao continues his good performances, scoring 6 goals in 6 matches Serie A this season.
The English media have reported that Chelsea are still interested in Rafael Leao, but Paolo Maldini has confirmed that the Portuguese wants to stay in Italy. The striker has not been able to sign a contract renewal with the Reds and Blacks, due to a legal conflict with his former club, Sporting CP, over the player's move to Lille. Maldini recently spoke to CalcioMercato:
"Leao has a difficult situation related to his previous move to Lille, which is affecting him a lot and has caused the situation to change often. But Rafa is grateful to us and I am interested in what he tells us. He understands that his path in the coming years should be at Milan, and he told us the same thing. There will be negotiations, but we know that good players should be paid according to their value. If the team grows further, Leao will have everything to compete at the highest levels.”
Maldini added:
"Of course, there are no untransferable players in any team in the world."
The Italian media reports that Milan has made it clear to the leaders of Chelsea that the Blues must pay 150 million euros to activate the termination clause of Leao's contract.
