Nottingham Forest have contacted Sean Dyche and Roberto Mancini to discuss their possible managerial positions following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou. Postecoglou left the club after just 40 days in charge following a 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea. The club's owner, Evangelos Marinakis, was at the stadium for the match but left shortly after Chelsea's second goal, with a senior official informing Postecoglou of the decision to sack him.
After a humiliating Europa League defeat to Midtjylland, which saw fans express their displeasure with the Australian manager, Forest have begun to consider options for his successor. Postecoglou had been in charge for 39 days, becoming the shortest-serving manager in Premier League history. He said goodbye to the players in the dressing room before leaving the stadium. Marinakis had hoped his appointment would bring success in winning major trophies.
Mancini and Dyche are both currently out of work. Marinakis has also expressed his admiration for Marco Silva, the Fulham manager, who is out of contract at the end of the season and is believed to have a buyout clause of around £8m. Nottingham Forest are willing to pay compensation to managers but must keep financial sustainability rules in mind, especially after sacking two managers in the space of two months and spending heavily on transfers.
Mancini has not managed since leaving as Saudi Arabia manager a year ago, while Dyche, a former Forest player, lives near the City Ground. His long-time assistants Ian Woan and Steve Stone were also Forest players. Marinakis will offer a contract that could be crucial in speeding up negotiations with candidates in the next 24 hours. Nottingham Forest return to Europa League action against Porto on Thursday, and it is expected that Postecoglou's successor will be in place by then, as the team has collected just one point from two possible games.
