Mikel Arteta said he felt "disappointed and upset" that Arsenal are ending another season without winning a major trophy. The Gunners manager gave a short but emotional speech to the fans at the Emirates Stadium after the 1-0 victory over Newcastle in the final home game of the Premier League season.
The result guarantees Arsenal's place in the UEFA Champions League for next season, but it has now been 5 years since the Londoners last won a major trophy, the FA Cup in 2020. Arsenal lost the Premier League title battle to Liverpool, were eliminated in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League and Carabao Cup, and were also eliminated from the FA Cup in the third round.
Mikel Arteta said he is ready to "give his soul" to bring a trophy to the club. The Spanish coach said:
"Liverpool have a trophy, we have none. We are unhappy and upset, but I think we are on the right track. What I can promise you is that I will do my best to win that trophy, I will give my soul and I will extract every ounce of energy from these people, to get the best out of them."
Arteta was asked by the media if he believes the fans still support him. He replied:
"I think so, but they want more, they have expectations. We have to believe that we will do this together. We had a dream, to be here and bring the fans the big trophies, but for many reasons we didn't achieve it. We have to make sure that chasing the dream doesn't blind us and continue with positivity and enthusiasm for the next season."
With this message, Arteta emphasized the need for optimism and maximum commitment, promising that the battle for trophies will continue without stopping. Arsenal is expected to be very active in the upcoming summer transfer window, as the Londoners have already realized that they need reinforcements in every department of the field, to be in the race for the championship title in the next Premier League season.
