Manchester United's attempts to sign Bryan Mbeumo have stalled after Brentford increased their valuation to nearly £70m. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club's owner, is determined not to pay more than the £65m the player is valued at.
Mbeumo has expressed a desire to join United, and in late June Ratcliffe and director of football Jason Wilcox believed a £65m bid would bring the 25-year-old in. Brentford have also indicated that a medical is expected very soon.
However, Brentford's change of heart has been met with resistance from Ratcliffe and Wilcox, who are unwilling to be held hostage and are determined to wait. Brentford consider their position strong as, although Mbeumo's contract expires next summer, the club have a one-year option.
If Ratcliffe and Wilcox decide to increase their bid, they may first want to raise funds by selling or loaning any of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia. United are expecting offers for all of these players.
Meanwhile, Brentford have failed to trigger the £35m release clause for Ipswich forward Omari Hutchinson, but that is unlikely to stop the London club's pursuit of the striker. Brentford are undergoing a summer overhaul and are planning to sign Hutchinson, who impressed during the UEFA Under-21 Championship.
