Manchester United have made selling Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho a priority as part of their squad renewal. All three are currently out on loan and the club have no plans to bring them back next season.
The club have also lost faith in Rasmus Hojlund, who will be on the transfer list, as United are seriously interested in Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap. Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelöf will be released on free transfers, while Jonny Evans is expected to retire from football after an injury-plagued season. Tyrell Malacia, an Eredivisie champion with PSV Eindhoven, is also expected to be sold.
Manchester United have set a price tag of £40m for Rashford, with Antony around £32.5m, while Chelsea have a buyout clause of up to £25m for Sancho. If Chelsea fail to trigger the buyout clause, they will have to pay a £5m penalty. Sancho's contract with United expires next year, while Antony has a deal until 2027, while Rashford is under contract until 2028.
Rashford's spell at Aston Villa ended when the striker suffered a thigh injury four weeks ago. Rashford wants to join a team playing in the UEFA Champions League and, according to reports, the Englishman is not interested in a London club. United are confident he could move outside England.
Antony has excelled on loan at Real Betis, who reached the Europa Conference League final. At United, he made just two starts under Ruben Amorimi in the Europa League and FA Cup before leaving in January. To avoid losing money under Premier League financial rules, United are demanding at least £32.52m for Antony. They signed him from Ajax for £81.3m in September 2022.
With these moves, Manchester United aims to free up space in the high wage bill, secure funds for new reinforcements and give coach Ruben Amorim the opportunity to build a competitive team on all fronts. The English were defeated in the Europa League final against Tottenham, and it seems that they have a long road ahead of them to return to the elite of English football.
