Aston Villa have entered the race to secure the services of striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The club have expressed interest in the star's wage demands, as manager Unai Emery looks to strengthen the team's attacking options. Calvert-Lewin, 28, is available on a free transfer after leaving Everton at the end of last season.
He has been a target for other clubs such as AC Milan and Newcastle United, but now Aston Villa are in the running. Emery needs two strikers, with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio still yet to return to Villa Park.
Villa are looking for affordable sources as they struggle to meet UEFA's rules on profits and sustainability. As a free agent, Calvert-Lewin fits into this category and would also provide support for Emery should Ollie Watkins, their main striker, be targeted by other clubs such as Manchester United and Newcastle.
Although Calvert-Lewin endured a difficult season, scoring just three goals in 26 appearances for Everton, he has the potential to bounce back and contribute to Aston Villa's attack. He also missed 14 games with a muscle injury at the end of the season.
Aston Villa have had a quiet summer in the transfer market so far, making only one signing for goalkeeper Marco Bizot and young defender Yasin Ozcan. The team are also committed to keeping Watkins, while having rejected a bid for goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
