Arsenal have been trying to bring a new striker to the Emirates for some time. The Londoners were in pursuit of Benjamin Sesko and Ollie Watkins this winter transfer window, but failed to bring either of them to the team. Most recently, Arsenal were in pursuit of Bayern Munich's Mathys Tel. However, the latter officially joined Tottenham. Seeing the limited opportunities in this January transfer window, the English media have announced that the Arsenal board has decided to focus 100% on the transfer of Nico Williams, at the end of the season.
The Athletic Club Spaniard has long been a target for manager Mikel Arteta and the club tried to bring him to London in the transfer window. Having failed to do so, Arsenal are preparing another plan to transfer Williams, this time at the end of the season. The striker has a £58m release clause in his contract and Arsenal are ready to offer even more to make the Spanish ace their own.
Arsenal have another advantage in the race for Williams' services, as the player is thought to be keen on a move to the Emirates. This is because, should it happen, Williams would play alongside his Spanish international teammates: David Raya, Mikel Merino and Martin Zubimendi.
As for the January transfer window, Arsenal are expected to make a last-ditch effort to bring in a number 9. The Gunners are expected to make a final bid for Ollie Watkins, despite his previous rejection by Aston Villa. Arsenal are also set to make another push for Juventus' Dusan Vlahovic. The Serbian could leave the Italians this summer, but even that move won't be easy.
